News & Events Details

May 16th was celebrated across the world as the International Day of the Boy Child. Under the banner of the Boy Child Advancement and Protection Foundation (BCAPF), Lagos State Chapter. we celebrated the day with the young boys at the Utopia Comprehensive College, Ijaiye, Lagos State.

We met with the principal, who was delighted to receive us. He was unaware that there was a special day to celebrate the boy child. However, we enlightened him that there's an International Day of the Boy Child, but it's not as popular as the Girl Child.

We started the day with the national anthem. One of our dedicated members, Mr. Kehinde served as the moderator. The school principal gave his opening speech to encourage and motivate the students.

Ms Haruna Balikis introduced the foundation, its vision, and its mission to the students. The Lagos State coordinator then educated the students on drug abuse, its causes, consequences, and prevention. It was really an engaging session, as the students overwhelmingly participated in the discussion.

To add fun to the program, Ms Haruna Balikis takes the students through a spelling bee competition. The winners were awarded gifts (bags) sponsored by Mr Kehinde.

Then Mr. Adeyemi took them through a general lifestyle session, where he discussed with them how to deal with sexual harassment, rape, and the consequences of engaging in these social vices. He encouraged them to speak out when they were faced with these vices. He also discourages them from getting involved in cybercrime, which is popularly known as ‘Yahoo Yahoo,’ as this crime has been seen as a norm in our society, especially by young men. This session is crucial in raising responsible men.

Questions and answers were entertained from the students.

At the end of the program, a small gift (pens) which was sponsored by Mr. Adeyemi was distributed to the students. The event ended with a counseling and interactive session.

Thanks to my team, specifically Mr Kehinde and Ms Haruna Balikis, who made the event a success.

Signed:
Oluwatosin Adeyemi
Lagos State coordinator, BCAPF
